What's New!

June 2008:

June ended up being a hugely successful month for the Maroscher Powerlifting Team (MPT).

Dr. Robert "Lavender" Keyes represented the MPT at the APF Diablo Barbell Spring Meet in California.  Rob had a rock solid day with the following numbers:  657 SQ (pr), 462 BP, 672 DL (pr) for a personal record total of 1791#!  This was Rob's first dark side (APF) meet as he is a national silver medalist in the USAPL as a MII, 275-er.

Dennis "Double D" Duffy blew away every lifter in the AAPF Bench Only category at the APF Chicagoland Summer Bash Saturday, June 28.  Double D won the 242 weight class, as well as best lifter, with an ez 468 (pr) bench press.  500# is there for the taking!   Double D was given the ultimate backhanded compliment at the meet when he was told, "Great job, now, here is your urine sample cup."  Remember Dennis, you are not truly strong unless they think you are a-cheatin'.

Ronald "RAL" Legarreta, like Big Rob, joined the dark side at this, his first APF sanctioned meet.  Ronald is a national silver medalist in the USAPL.  Ronald won his division (AAPF Master I, 181) at the APF Summer Bash going 523 SQ (pr), 370 BP (pr), 518 DL totaling a personal record of 1410#.  Viva la APF.

The newest member to the Maroscher Team, Jonathan Zajicek , (a.k.a., Sweaty J), competed for the first time ever and did a great job at the APF Summer Bash going 7 for 9 as a Junior lifter (275).  Sweaty J managed a 518 SQ (no knee wraps), 385 BP, 501 DL for a 1405# total right out of the shoot.

Phil "Redskins #93" Daniels had a huge day too at the Summer Bash when he blew past his off-season goal of squatting 700.  Big Phil went 722 SQ, 425 BP, 600 DL for a sure-to-be-Top 100 total of 1747 #at a bdw of 296.  I feel sorry for anyone that gets hit by Big Phil this season.  He is 22 lbs. bigger and even a wee bit faster.  Scary man!

Freaky Al Baehr put on a display of power at the APF Summer Bash.  Forget his bench and squat, which were good, as he smoked a 705# deadlift and just missed, and I mean just barely missed the biggest dead attempt of the day, 733#.   When asked why he doesn't warm up for the deadlift, Al simply states, "You don't warm up to move a couch by moving a love seat, you just pick it up."  Freak!

Big thanks to Mario DeBenedetti for helping out with wrapping knees and to Eric Stone for putting on a great APF Summer Bash Meet.

May 2008:

Dennis Duffy lifted at the 2008 APF/AAPF Mid-West Powerlifting Championships held in Charleston, IL on May 31, 2008.  Dennis competed in the 242 RAW Sub-Master, Open, APF and AAPF Divisions.  Dennis' RAW bench was 405LBS w/ a pause at a 238# bdw.  He can't reach the bottom of his pockets, but the man sure can bench!!!

Maroscher Powerlifting Team coach/founder Eric Maroscher qualified for his third WPC World Powerlifting Championships by placing 3rd at the APF Master Nationals in Baton Rouge, LA on May 3-4, 2008.  Eric has won two prior world titles (2000 Las Vegas, NV and 2001 Cape Town, South Africa).  This was Eric's first meet back since his surgery to re-attach a blown bicep tendon.   Special Thanks to the Maroscher Team for helping him prep for the meet, Ron "Ready and Loaded" Legeretta for making the trip to support Eric, and special thanks to Big Keith Earley who coached Eric at this National Meet.
